Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

In children, ADHD is typically characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with their daily functioning and development.

ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can affect children and adults.

Some common symptoms of ADHD in children include:

Inattention

Children with ADHD may have trouble paying attention, staying focused on tasks, and following instructions. They may also be forgetful and easily distracted.

Hyperactivity

Children with ADHD may be constantly in motion, fidgeting, tapping, or talking excessively. They may also have difficulty sitting still for long periods of time.

Impulsivity

Children with ADHD may act without thinking, interrupt others, or have trouble waiting their turn.

It's important to note that while these symptoms are common in children, they can also be present in children without ADHD.

A diagnosis of ADHD requires a comprehensive evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional. Treatment for ADHD in children often involves a combination of medication and behavioral therapy. Medications used to treat ADHD in children are typically stimulants, which can help improve attention and reduce hyperactivity and impulsivity. Behavioral therapy can help children develop coping skills and strategies to manage their symptoms and improve their overall functioning.

Early diagnosis and intervention can help improve outcomes for children with ADHD.

If you're concerned that your child may have ADHD, it's important to talk to their healthcare provider for an evaluation and to discuss treatment options.
